Description of the Technique
Making a pieced Roman
shade with a simple design doesn't take much more time than using a single
fabric. You sketch out the design to scale. Shapes are made by adding a
1/4" seam to all sides and sewing them together. I oversize many of my
pieces and then trim to the correct size as I go. When I am finished, I end
up with a shade "front" that I hem and trim to size as if I had
one piece of fabric. More details on each shade shown above can be obtained
by clicking on the individual photographs.
Learn this Technique
You may want to consider taking a basic quilting class. Most quilt fabric
stores offer a variety of beginner classes. Check your local Yellow Pages
for a store near you and call for a class schedule.
