Commission a Pieced Roman Shade
I design and make pieced Roman shades and wall hangings. I have clients across the United States and do about half of my work long distance.

The best way to start the process is to read and print the information on this page. I enjoy discussing your particular situation, so please call me. Information you should have ready is the number and size of the windows you want covered and which designs you like.

I will give you a ballpark budgetary price. Prices depend upon the complexity of the design and the number of windows. The more windows you cover with one pattern, the lower the price per square foot. Prices range from $31 to $87 per square foot, plus a $150 Design Fee. Discounts are available for large orders (generally over 40 square feet).

Comments from Clients
Not a week goes by that a family member, friend or visitor doesn't comment on how beautiful and unique our shades are. Thank you so much for helping to make our new house a home with your wonderful eye for color and your unique design sense.

Beginning the Process of Commissioning a pieced Roman shade or Wall Hanging

The designing and making of a commissioned pieced Roman shade or wall hanging involves Four Steps:

Step One. The Budgetary Quote
Since your piece shade or wall hanging will be custom, the first step is to come to an understanding on your desired pattern and determine a price.

Required:

  • A telephone conversation to discuss your situation. I am located in Denver, Colorado. Please call (303) 758-0188 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, Mountain Time.
  • Window Measurements. Go to the Window Measurements page for instructions on how to measure your window. If you want a wall hanging, decide the approximate size would work best for your particular location.

Very helpful:

  • Photographs of your window(s) and room

You will receive a Budgetary Quote by e-mail or snail mail for your design based upon your measurements. Your actual cost may vary by 5%. All forms required for Step Two will also be included.

Step Two. The Design Phase
After you have agreed upon the design approach and the budgetary price, I will design your pieced Roman shades or wall hanging. This involves considerable computer time, as well as trips to choose the fabrics that will be in your shades.

Required:

  • $150 Design Fee, which is non-refundable. Check payable to Terrell Designs must accompany request.
  • photographs of your window(s) and room, if not already received in Step One (not required for a wall hanging)
  • signed measurement form
  • fabric swatches, tiles, paint chips, if available

You will receive a full-color drawing of your proposed wall hanging or pieced Roman shade(s) both down and fully raised, with all dimensions noted. A fabric strike-off (a corner of your shade or wall hanging sewn from actual fabrics) will be included for your approval. You will receive a firm cost and an approximate delivery schedule.

Step Three. The Sewing Phase
A 50% deposit for the pieced shade is required to begin sewing.

Step Four. Delivery
You will be informed by e-mail when your shade(s) or wall hanging are completed. A photograph of the completed commission will be attached. Full payment of the balance due, including shipping, must be received before I mail off your package. Please be assured that if you are not happy with the end result, we will work together to modify your piece until it is perfect for your home and decor.

Installation instructions for the shades will be enclosed, or you can hire a professional installer (check your local Yellow Pages under Drapery and Curtain Installation).
