Shipping Information

What are the Shipping and Handling Rates for Shipments in the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands?

Shipping and Handling - US Only
Orders up to $25.00 $5.10
$25.01 - $50.00 $7.20
$50.01 - $75.00 $9.30
$75.01 - $100.00 $11.40
$100.01 - $125.00 $13.50
over $125.00  $15.60

The amount you pay for S&H is based on the dollar amount of your order. Generally, you pay approximately the same amount that it costs for the postage plus the PACKAGING. Long items like battens and rods must be shipped in a 62" long, 1/4"-wall tube. These tubes cost approximately $3.60 wholesale. (Read about how to open those tubes below.) I would love to add an extra handling charge to only the long items, but the Shopping Cart software isn't sophisticated enough to do that.

Note that you can get a substantial discount if you order more than $125.00 in products. You pay the same S&H for a $450.00 order as for a $126.00 order. Shipping of hardware is expensive. This is a real savings for you.

Can I request Overnight Delivery?
Yes, you can specify Express Mail delivery when you place your order. The pull-down menu will give you the cost for this faster service. Note that an order placed after 12 noon Mountain Time will probably not go out that day, but rather the following day. It is always best to E-Mail us as an alert when you need expedited delivery

How can I check on the status of my order?
You will receive a "Robot Response" verifying your order several minutes after you submit it. If you do not receive an E-Mail verification, you should check that you entered your address correctly when you ordered. It is very important that we have your correct E-Mail address as this is how we notify you of any problems in processing your order. Keep this Order Confirmation E-Mail message until you receive your shipment. You can check the Order Status by clicking on the link in this message. It will be updated with an Estimated Ship Date, then an Actual Ship Date and a Delivery Tracking Number, if applicable. If there is a problem with your order, or you have requested something special (such as adding additional products), this will be noted in the Comment Section.

How long does is take to pack and ship my order?
Once we receive your verified order (or your check and Order Form if you order by mail), it is generally packed and shipped within 48 hours. Orders received between Friday noon and Sunday noon are usually shipped by the following Tuesday. Occasionally your order will be shipped the same day it is received, or it may go out a day later than normal if the volume of orders is high. Monday holidays are a busy time for as as many of you are home designing your sewing projects and ordering hardware.

How do you ship orders?
We use the US Postal Service to ship packages. Packages that weigh over 12 ounces (about 90%) are sent via Priority Mail. You will be notified by E-Mail shortly after a label is printed for your order. This means that your package is ready for pick-up by the US Postal Service and will arrive at you doorstep in 2-4 business days. Packages that weigh 12 ounces or less are shipped by First Class mail, unless they require special packaging (long items such as battens and weight rods).

How do I open your cardboard tube once I receive my order?
Use a small flat-head screwdriver to bend the metal end cap into the center of the tube. Once you get about half-way around, you should be able to pull the cap out with pliers. If your tube is really heavy (lots of steel rods), there may also be screws through the tube that prevent the caps from popping out. Remove these screws with a Philips-head screwdriver. The tubes are difficult to open on purpose! The postal service is quite inventive in opening boxes in-transit. Hopefully you will get all of your order, rather than having parts in the back of the delivery truck.

What are the Shipping and Handling Rates for Shipments to Canada?
As of June 14, 2007, we can no longer ship 4-ft and 5-ft items to Canada due to the new postal service international shipping regulations. The maximum package length is 42". Since we need an inch on each end for the metal tube end-stops, that means that the longest rod or batten we can ship is 40". Please E-Mail us for help in converting the quantities generated by the Hardware Calculator into shippable items.

You will also notice that the minimum shipping fee is very high. That is because the rates jumped in June. That is what we have to pay to ship your package!

Orders up to $35.00 $15.50
$35.01 - $60.00 $17.50
$60.01 - $90.00 $19.50
$90.01 - $135.00 $22.50
over $135.00 $27.50

When you order on-line, you must choose "Canada Air Mail" from the Drop-Down Shipping Method Box.

Do you ship outside the United States and Canada?
That depends upon where you live. I can ship to Canada for reasonable rates (see above). All other countries vary widely as to whether I can ship the longer items (plastic ribs, mounting boards and weight rods). Sometimes there is a dimensional limit on boxes. I will do everything possible to send items to you anywhere in the world, but I will handle requests on an individual basis. So if you want shipment overseas, E-Mail Me with the following information:

  • items you will be ordering
  • your entire shipping address
  • whether this is a residence or business address
  • any concerns you have, such as requiring tracking and signatures along the way

I will determine the size and weight of your order, and get shipping information for your country. Approximate delivery times will be given. I usually ship International Priority Mail. As of June 14, 2007, we can no longer ship 4-ft and 5-ft items overseas due to the new postal service international shipping regulations. The maximum package length is 42". Since we need an inch on each end for the metal tube end-stops, that means that the longest rod or batten we can ship is 40". Please E-Mail us for help in converting the quantities generated by the Hardware Calculator into shippable items.

I will E-mail you back with the cost of the shipping and handling. You can then order on-line by adding Overseas Shipping to your Shopping Cart. This item is on the Linings & Supplies shopping page. I will tell you the number of units. So if your overseas postage will be $17.00, you will add 17 units of Overseas Shipping to your cart. A Handling Fee of $5.00 will be added during Check-Out. Be sure to use the Comment Box on the Check-out Form to indicate which option of shipping you want, so that I can verify you have ordered correctly. When you order on-line, you must choose "International" for the Shipping Option. This adds the flat Handling Fee of $5.00 and does not add any additional shipping costs to your order. This option also reminds you to contact us for the extra shipping cost.

To summarize, if you live outside the United States and Canada do the following:

  • request shipping cost information (what we need to answer your request is give above)
  • order the correct number of Overseas Shipping units, as specified in our reply to your request
  • Specify "International" Shipping when you order on-line.

Will I have to Pay Customs Fees?
Every country determines it's own customs requirements. Most are based upon the value of the contents and don't include shipping costs. It is up to you to find out your country's rules. Find out the break-point for fees and make your purchase accordingly. For example, if your country requires custom fees on contents over $40.00, you may want to order up to $39.00 worth of items at a time.

What if I need my package shipped by UPS or FedEx because of delivery problems with the US Postal Service?
E-mail me or explain your situation in the Special Instructions section when you place your order. If you live in a remote part of Alaska where it takes several months for parcel post delivery, I will gladly ship using Priority Mail. If you want hardware delivered to a summer home where there is no US Mail delivery and you don't bother to keep a mail box, I will ship using FedEx Ground or UPS Ground. Generally there will be no extra charge for this service.

How long until I receive my package after you ship?
As you may know, the US Post Office does not guarantee delivery. They give best guess estimates on transit time. They are usually correct. In my e-mail message I will give you the best guess delivery date. I use First Class and Priority mail whenever possible, which means you will get your package in about 3 days anywhere in the US, including Hawaii and Alaska.

What should I do if I don't receive my package when you say I should have?
I have had only one package lost in over 2 years of shipping. I have had several packages that arrive 1-2 weeks late. Notify me if your order is over-due. You can use E-mail or call (303-758-0188). The longer the delay, the more likely your package has been damaged. My local mail mistress says that often the mailman is embarrassed when a package is squashed and will put off delivering it! Doesn't help you or me, does it?  I will re-ship, and worry about getting the original package back later. Actually sending a replacement order almost always guarantees that you will get the original package. Then you get to send the replacement back to me!

I received this interesting information from a customer:
"I just retired from the Post Office AND-- if the replacement package is sent Priority or First Class AND is NOT  OPENED--not even a packing slip or letter on top- it can be refused. All they have to do is tell the mailman or Post Office it was a duplicate shipment--it does not matter if it was left at the house already--it matters only that it is UNOPENED!"

Who pays for all of this extra shipping when a replacement order must be mailed?
I pay for all of the extra shipping. If you need to send a box back to me because you received two, just let me know how much postage you paid and I will mail you a check. It is worth it to me to get the extra hardware back.
Note that this is different from our Return Policy. If you decide you don't want to keep what you ordered, you pay for the return postage, but do get reimbursed for your entire cost (parts and original shipping) once we receive the goods back. See the section on Policies Section for more details.

Do you track shipments?
I have been asked if I can "track" a package. Once again, the US Post Office does not offer this service. They do offer a Delivery Confirmation service, which sometimes lets us know if a package arrives. I use it extensively and find that about 25% of the time, an inquiry says that a package has not arrived, when it actually has, but the bar code had not been scanned. So... let me know if your package does not arrive by the estimated delivery date and then we can deal with it.
